5 Steps to Cleaning your Social Media
It’s spring which means many people decide to spring clean. Sure, I am all for spring cleaning the traditional way but what about digitally? Specifically, social media-wise? Don’t know where to start? I got you!
Also, this post is also for me too- sometimes I don’t follow my own advice and I really should.
Update your Passwords
Let’s be real, you have one password for all your accounts or one password with slight variations to satisfy requirements for the account requirements. This is not always the best idea. I have a terrible memory so it is not easy to make different passwords. That is why I recommend Bitwarden. You can use it on any browser and it has both a google play app and an app on the Apple app store. My dad actually recommended it to me and I love it. There are paid plan, but don’t worry, I use the free plan which works just fine.
Review your profile
Look at your profile, make sure everything is still relevant: the contact information, website URL, etc. This goes for images too. Your profile images and banners. Are they all up to date and cohesive with your brand? Is your profile complete?
I know when I went self-hosted I had to update my blog URL to my new one on every social media profile.
Check your old content
Sometimes it’s best to remove old content. The posts that don’t relate anymore or the overall aesthetic of your feed. No one is making you keep them there- achieve them/delete them.
Unfollow accounts
Social media affects us mentally and can impact self-esteem. if you’re not enjoying an account or it’s triggering negativity, unfollow them. Also, unfollow everyone from school that you don’t talk to.
I did this recently. I went through who I was following and unfollowed everyone from high school who I didn’t interact with as well as accounts I didn’t care for anymore.
It is soo refreshing! It did take me a while as I kept going through the list again and again. But it is worth it.
Delete Accounts
Do you have an account somewhere you just don’t utilize and are not active on? Delete it. It wasn’t useful in the past so I am guessing you won’t be needing it.
These are great ideas. I am just starting out in blogging and I am finding that there are so many things to keep track of, so this idea is very helpful. ?
