New Year and Journaling Prompts

The new year means new beginnings — and new resolutions. This is the perfect time to let go of the past and look forward to the future! I compiled a list of journal prompts to help you start journaling and reflecting! You can also access my printable here for a printed copy with the prompts on them!

Prompts: 2022 Reflections

  • Favorite moment
  • I’m most grateful for …
  • I’m most proud of …
  • Quote, to sum up, the year

Prompts: 2022 Achievements

  • List what challenges did you overcome?
  • What did you learn about yourself?
  • The best way you used your time?
  • What new habits did you start?
  • What was the best decision you made?
  • What new habits did you start?
  • What did you let go of?

Regrets

  • What did you leave unfinished?
  • What disappointed you this year?
  • What was the biggest mistake you made & the lesson you learned?
  • What got in the way of your success?
  • What did you enjoy the least?
  • What do you wish you had done this year?
  • What did you let go of?
  • What would you do differently if you could?

Prompts: 2023 Intentions

  • The main goal for the year
  • One thing you want to learn
  • One thing you want to work on

Journal Prompts For Students & a New Semester

  • What is one thing you accomplished this semester that you are proud of?
  • What are you excited about for this new semester?
  • What are you nervous about?
  • What is something you want to remember this semester?
  • What habits/activities do you want to add to your life in the upcoming months?
  • What are you grateful for now that the fall semester is over?

Journaling can be a wonderful method to follow what you want to improve, but be sure to balance constructive criticism with your accomplishments. If you only focus your attention on what you still must work on, you may not acknowledge all the improvement you’ve already earned when it comes to your goals. Set a reminder for yourself to document what you’re thankful for or a way you made progress along with the possible setbacks.
