How to create your own Digital Vision Board

Today I am going to go through the steps of how to create your own digital vision board! Vision boards are phenomenal for anyone really. But they are especially good for people who have many dreams they want to achieve. But what is a vision board?

According to Dictionary.com a vision board is:

a collage of pictures, text, and other items that represent and affirm one’s dreams and ambitions, created to help visualize and focus on one or more specific aspirations

What you will need

  • Some time to devote to the project
  • Your favorite beverage and/or snack
  • Your favorite music
  • A computer
  • Internet access
  • Dreams
  • Determination

Plan out your Vision Board

To make the process go more smoothly, I highly recommend you jot down ideas of what you want to put on it. This could be any of the following:

  • Goals
  • Dreams
  • Values
  • Anything you wish to integrate into your life

You can also organize those into separate categories:

  • Family
  • Personal
  • Career
  • Hobbies
  • Money
  • Community

It is your own board so it is up to you to do it however you feel is necessary.

Creating your Vision board

I chose to use Adobe illustrator but you can use another program. For example, Canva is free to use. If you do please use the referral link here.

*When you join Canva with my link we both earn a Canva Credit to get a premium element for free!

Create a new document

I used the dimensions 842 px x 595 px. But you honestly can use whatever dimensions you wish.

Choose your color scheme

I love choosing my color scheme. It helps me decide on how I will organize my design. In this case that would be my vision board. I highly recommend using Adobe Color it is free. You can extract colors from photos or search for a brand new color palette by using keywords.

I chose three colors for my board. One for the background, one for the text background and the last for text color.

Find your photos, text, words etc.

  • I chose around 7 images
  • Selected 3 big words that represented my goals which were – Create, inspire, and confidence
  • I also included 3 quotes to match the words

You can use your own images too! If you are really happy with your Instagram feed aesthetic that would look so nice in a vision board. If you are not very pleased with your Instagram feed, check out this post on how to improve so you can use the photos in your vision board once you learn to improve.

You can use the free stock photos Canva provides if you are using Canva. If not. Some other free sites for photos include Unsplash, Shutterstock, and Pixaby. If you are looking for, quotes Goodreads is an awesome tool to search for specific quotes.

Choose your Vision Board Fonts

I chose 2 fonts, one for the quotes text and another for the big words that represented my quotes.

Designing your Vision Board

Play around with the look and try out different versions until you come to the one you really like. Place all your text and photos on the board as you wish.

Lucky for you I have a vision board guide complete with checklists and a layout template. You can find it below!

Display it

Vision boards are most effective when you see them often. Some people put it as their desktop background or phone screensaver. This is so when you go to these places, you are reminded of what you hope to accomplish.

But creating a vision board also takes you to act on those visions. It is not going to work unless you take action and realistic steps. The vision you long for won’t become a reality if all you do is dream about them. You’ve got to visualize it, stay focused, do the work and take inspired action.

I highly encourage you to at least attempt this fun project. It really is motivating and fun to do!!! There is such an open range to how you design it and there really is no right answer! So, go get your dreams and make them a little more motivating by designing an everyday reminder- a vision board.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter yesterday – if you celebrate!
